Today we ventured via tuk tuk into Patong – the main tourist beach in Phuket. Our resort is further south next to Karon beach which is a significantly less developed area. Walking around Pantong it was nice to be surrounded by tourists, as we got a chance to share some of the street vendor harrasment.
Phil proved that he is a major sucker and ended up buying 3 shirts and a pair of pants from a pushy-free-coke-giving tailor which means that we’ll have to go back to Patong tomorrow for his second fitting. No doubt the tailor will spend the majority of the time trying to convince me to purchase something – “You lady look very pretty in lovely dress. We make one special in your favourite colour only 500 baht no?”
Tired from being offered numerous tailor made suits and authentic (not) louis vuitton handbags, we called into an Aussie bar for a beer. Most people on the street think that we’re Australian so we seemed to fit right in. It was there we learnt the unfortunate news about our semi final loss. Oh well, at least the Australians lost their game too.
Tomorrow we’ll probably spend some time on the beach – possibly some jetskiing if I can talk Phil into it.
Hey guys, looks like your trip is off to a great start!! I’m so jealous. Not very good at posting on blogs but HAD to comment on that handtowel!!!! If you see anymore can you work out how they do it??? LOL.
Sounds like you might need to harden up to the locals though Pip, else you might need a few extra suitcases to fit all your pressure buys!! T-dogg, you should wander past some jewellery or handbag places – could be worth your while… ;)
Take care guys. Keep the pics coming!!
ooOooh jet skiing – Do it! x
Dang that beach looks pretty cool! Windy though? And what’s the temperature like at the moment? Still 30+? :)
Yeah we’re looking forward to that street vendor harassment … not! Dunno if we’ll give in to them and buy tailored clothes though Phil … hehehe
Been jetskiing yet? That’d be SWEET in Thailand! If you go you’d better post photos of some sort – jealous over here in NZ where the weather’s been so shit we might as well cancel anything that involves going outside, including walking to work.
Chau dudes!
– Chris & Annie
Sounds like the overwhelming majority of you guys want us to go jet skiing, so I guess I’m gonna have to. I’ll try and get some picks of us doing it.
And yes Chris & Annie, the weather here is awesome, it’s been 30+ all day today, the only ting that’s stopping me from being in the pool all day is the slightly cooler air condintioned bed room.
I havn’t got any of the pics on me at the moment, but I’ll get Toni to upload them soon as.
